The New York Times Style Magazine is a perfect-bound magazine publication of The New York Times newspaper dedicated to beauty, fashion, holiday, living, travel, and design.

Established in August 2004, it was published 13 times per year between 2013 and 2016, and since January 2017 has been published 11 times per year. It has long been considered one of the international authorities on style. T is not a supplement of The New York Times Magazine but an independent publication with its own team.

Our Miami creative agency was asked to look at the December edition, which centered around the holidays, and take over a story. For the editorial, our Miami creative agency worked on a complete design, giving it a contemporary look. The editorial shows a Christmas Photo Tutorial with a playful identity published in both print and digital.

Blocks of color inspire the editorial design. These are used to emphasize words, give a contrast in pace, and create layouts with real impact. The bold juxtaposition of type and images adds drama to the spreads, and images can appear as full-bleed, cropped, or cut-out. Some spreads also feature oversized headlines for extra impact.

Yellow, a non-Christmas color, features heavily throughout the editorial used in bold typography and visible grids. Different color backgrounds are used to signpost each section changing according to the content.
