Regular Animal builds a robust website with an engaging user experience that allows Project Mecistops to highlight its projects and better connect with its audience.

Project Mecistops is a research lab based in Miami that helps wildlife in West and Central Africa thrive. They ensure the future of Africa’s most critically endangered crocodilian and other threatened species through captive breeding, reintroduction, and support of national parks.

Scientific research and conservation are central to Project Mecistops and, as such, needed also to form the backbone of their new website. Regular Animal builds a robust website with an engaging user experience that allows Project Mecistops to highlight its projects and better connect with its audience. The new website incorporates the latest web technologies, new features, an updated interface, and a WordPress CMS framework.

Regular Animal started by exploring contemporary typefaces that felt authentic to Project Mecistops and reflected the organic, nature-based look of the website. The Miami-based design team decided on Merriweather, a typeface designed to be pleasant to read on screens. It features a large x-height, slightly condensed letterforms, mild diagonal stress, sturdy serifs, and open forms.

The new web layouts are clean and minimal, with elegant vector graphics and minor animations to add a bit of flair. In addition, the updated color scheme ranging from earthy tones to dark green and almost black, evokes the beauty of West Africa’s local flora and fauna, providing an open, approachable, and contemporary look and feel.

The updated website is simple, organized, and utilizes ample white space to highlight Project Mecistops initiatives and allow the content itself to be the hero.
